Abstract

3D printing of bone scaffolds based on starch gels and hydroxyapatite nanoparticles has been reported in the literature. Synthetic hydroxyapatite, despite showing structural similarity with biological apatite, does not present its bioactivity, since biological apatite has trace elements that play a key role in the bone remodeling process. More specifically, hydroxyapatite nanoparticles substituted with Sr2+ ions have been associated with the regulation of bone formation and resorption processes. Thus, this project aims to evaluate the effect of the molar percentage of Sr2+ ions in hydroxyapatite nanoparticles on the bioactivity of bone scaffolds (based on starch gels) produced via 3D printing. The bioactive properties evaluated will be: in vitro bioactivity, cell viability, mineralization capacity, and evaluation of the release of Sr2+ ions. Finally, this study will make it possible to understand how strontium ions can cooperate with the bioactivity of custom bone scaffolds based on starch gels produced via 3D printing. (AU)
