Abstract

Insomnia is characterized by frequent complaints about the quality and quantity of sleep and tends to result in physical and psychological damage to the individual's health. Maladaptive beliefs about sleep have been identified as reinforcing factors for insomnia, thus, treatments focusing on cognitive aspects such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy have been adopted by researchers and clinicians, demonstrating effectiveness. As a measure of assessing these cognitions, scales such as the Dysfunctional Beliefs and Attitudes about Sleep Scale (DBAS-16) were developed, assessing the strength of agreement with maladaptive beliefs about sleep, and the Sleep Problem Acceptance Questionnaire (SPAQ), as an alternative to quantify the acceptance of sleep problems. Although both scales show good evidence of validity and good psychometric properties, it is still needed to assess its validity in the Brazilian context to achieve valid, reliable, and reproducible results with these instruments. This study aims to perform the cross-cultural adaptation and evaluate the psychometric properties and validity evidence of the DBAS-16 and SPAQ scales with a Brazilian sample. This study will include adults with age ranging from 18 to 59 years with a diagnosis of insomnia and the estimated minimum sample size is 200 participants. The cross-cultural adaptation process comprises a process of translation, back-translation, translation synthesis and a pilot study. Statistical analyzes will be performed to assess the factorial structure of the instruments, reliability estimates, and evidence of validity related to external variables. (AU)
