Abstract

The Brazilian soils are mostly acidic, highly weathered and poor in terms of nutrient reserves. The low phytoavailability of phosphorus (P) normally presented by highly weathered soils is mainly due to processes of immobilization of the element in soil colloids through precipitate formation and sorption in inorganic solids. Consequently, high fertilizations are required for adequate supply of P to plants grown in these soils. As P sources are finite, several researchers have evaluated alternative sources of the element, such as organomineral fertilizer based on poultry litter and other less conventional sources, with the objective of increasing the P use efficiency in Agriculture and, in the case of Brazil, reducing costs with imports from conventional sources. In this context, our objectives in this research project are: (I) to evaluate the P kinetics release by alternative fertilizers (organomineral, struvite - ammonium phosphate and hexahydrated magnesium - and thermophosphate produced from phosphorus-rich ashes remaining sewage sludge - (TFL) compared to triple superphosphate; (II) study the P-desorption kinetics of soil from alternative fertilizers in relation to triple superphosphate); (III) to evaluate the agronomic efficiency of these alternative fertilizers regarding the supply of P for corn crop, and (IV) to identify changes in the structure and microbial community in soils treated with alternative fertilizers in relation to the mineral fertilizer.
