Abstract

Considering the present urban planning scenario in the city of São Paulo, this research Project investigates the limits and potential of transforming space on the basis of the design of a new device, that is, The Urban Intervention Project (UIP). More specifically, the research explores the emergence of the UIP as a new stage in the planning of the city of São Paulo, which intensifies a trajectory marked by discretionary powers and flexibility in the finance, physical intervention and regulation of the built environment through urban projects. In that sense, the research is aimed at the analysis of the significance, the limits and opportunities of UIPs in the planning of the city of São Paulo in light of its formal objective to provide more instrumental-communicative rationality to the design and implementation of urban projects, on the one hand, and the contradictory trajectory of previous experiences, on the other.
