Contemporary interventions in cities of South America: study of territorial transformations in slums - São Paulo, Brazil - Medellín, Colombia

Abstract

The project "Contemporary interventions in cities of South America: study of territorial transformations in slums. São Paulo / Brazil - Medellín / Colombia" , analyzes the socioeconomic and physical aspects of recent urban interventions in slums and their reflections on territorial transformations. . Is a comparative study of urban intervention in slums Sao Paulo and Medellin, especially because cities that have had a major trend in the last 10 years in implementation of urban policies and social housing as well as use new urban intervention in slums. The research seeks to consolidate scientific knowledge about these urban practices to drive from one side, to the discussion of the contradictions in the process of slum upgrading slums where housing developments have gained ground in local urban agendas and, in addition, to the identification of similarities and differences. Similarities that unite us to share the reality of informality and precariousness as well as by the recent creation of urban and housing policies with multiple views on the construction of the city and, differences that separate us as peculiar processes of urbanization, consequential stage of economic development, social and political needs of each society. As a result it is expected to contribute to the deepening of critical writings on the topic, as well as performing intellectual exchanges in the Planning and Urban Project Area the University of Sao Paulo and the University of Antioquia.
