Abstract

Obesity is a disease characterized by the excessive accumulation of adipose tissue capable of damaging health.The prevalence of this condition has been increasing at an alarming rate in virtually every country in the world since the 1970s. Inadequate nutrition and sedentary lifestyle are the main risk factors for the development of Obesity, which implies other health problems, such as: sense of well-being and impaired quality of life, numerous metabolic complications, high frequency of sick leave, early retirement and, ultimately, increased mortality. Health-related complications are mainly due to the increase in the proportion of body fat, with a concomitant increase in mechanical load, associated with disturbances in the endocrine/metabolic function. Within this context, acting in the prevention of this disease must be a continuous and collective effort on the part of the scientific community in relation to society. Thus, scientific dissemination in the form of small educational videos - produced based on Science, but in accessible language - can constitute an instrument for the dissemination of knowledge to the common citizen, thus generating a conscious social movement capable of preventing not only Obesity, but also to strengthen citizenship and improve the health of human populations.
