Effect of Tamoxifen on fibroblasts in the gingival tissue of ovariectomized rats

Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of systemic administration of tamoxifen on the proliferation and count of fibroblast-like cells in the gingival tissue of ovariectomized rats. Will be used 60 females randomly distributed in 2 experimental groups (n=30), OVX-SS Group: animals that will receive administration of saline solution (SS) (0.9%). OVX-TAM group: animals that will receive administration of tamoxifen citrate. The administration of SS and TAM will be done daily through gastric gavage at a dose of 0.5 mL and 15 mg/kg respectively for the entire experimental period. After periods of 30, 45, and 60 days, the animals will be euthanized by administering a lethal dose of thiopental (150mg/kg). The collected mandibles will be processed for histological and histometric analysis. Histological characteristics will be evaluated in the region of the gingival tissue adjacent to the gingival epithelium and above the bone crest, as well as the count of fibroblasts in this region. The quantitative data obtained will be submitted to statistical analysis (p<0.05) in a specialized computer program (Bioestat 5.0). (AU)
