Abstract

This project addresses the nature of subradiance (long-lived scattering modes) in cold atomic clouds, focusing on the statistics of the emitted light. The objective is to elaborate a test that permits to distinguish subradiance (the counterpart of superradiance, which corresponds to an accelerated emission) from radiation trapping (an incoherent phenomenon) or from (Anderson) localization of light. The candidate will investigate the statistics of the intensity in the speckle field scattered by a disordered cloud, as a tool to characterize the atomic states populated. Then, the deviations from Rayleigh law, which is valid for independent scatterers, could be used as a signature of the interactions between the atoms. (AU)
