Abstract This research aims to investigate the societal dimensions of mass incarceration in the empirical context of urban occupations in the central region of the city of São Paulo. Through an ethnographic approach and participatory research, the researcher will reconstruct the trajectories of residents of four different occupations, taken as "descriptive threads" of the socio-spatial configurations they pass through, with an emphasis on encounters with the prison device in its various facets ( police and prison agents and institutions). Thus, it is intended to analyze, on the one hand, the current operating modes of punitive management of occupations in the city center and, on the other, the effects of mass incarceration on the trajectory of the subjects struggling for urban land. This project is part of a research field that, in recent years, has been focusing the attention on the transits between inside and outside prison institutions. The contribution of our research is in the production of information that allows to unveil the relations between this type of mobility and the production of popular territories in the center of São Paulo. | |
