Drift on the Bose-Einstein condensation transition in the presence of a second atomic species

Abstract

Quantum gases such as Bose-Einstein condensates are experimentally produced with weakly interacting atomic gases cooled to temperatures of a few hundreds of nanokelvin. The phase transition critical point at such systems differs from the one easily obtained in the case of a homogeneous ideal gas because the effect of the interaction between its constituents and the usual harmonic confinement under these gases are produced. The existence of a second atomic species gives rise to another drift at the transition point related to the characteristics of the new species (i.e. number of atoms, inter-and intraspecies interactions). In the case of Bose-Fermi mixtures, the analytical expression for such a drift is already known, however in the simpler case of Bose-Bose mixtures, an analytical expression for the drift in the critical point is still not found in the literature. In this project, we propose the deduction of an analytical expression for the drift in the critical point for the Bose-Einstein condensation phase transition in the case of Bose-Bose mixtures and its subsequent measurement in an experimental system working with sodium (23Na) and potassium (39K) atoms.
