Abstract

The Fe77Mo5P9C7.5B1.5 alloy forms a composite with high mechanical strength (~ 3000 MPa) during rapid solidification due to the formation of the glassy and ferrite phases, being a promising alloy in several applications as sensors, micro-gears, and coatings. However, the need for a high cooling rate for the formation of the glassy phase makes possible the formation of only small size parts by conventional manufacturing techniques. The additive manufacturing method of Selective Laser Melting (SLM), on the other hand, allows the formation of metastable phases, such as the glassy phase, in bulk parts, due to the high cooling rates applied during this layer by layer process. Powders of this alloy were obtained in previous work, with morphology and particle size suitable to be used in the SLM process. This project intends to continue this previous work, with the SLM of the Fe77Mo5P9C7.5B1.5 alloy using different process parameters and evaluate the densification, microstructure, phase formation and mechanical properties of the samples obtained.
