Abstract

Artistic Gymnastics is known mainly for being practiced by children and young adolescents who start participating in official competitions at the age of 8. In the competitive context, sports performance has been prioritized, turning children into athletes, often disregarding the child's needs. While sports practice is prioritized in the lives of child and adolescent athletes, the child's point of view and rights might be restricted, or they might deal with a lack of appropriate care and respect during their sports life. Since it is one of the modalities that involve early sports specialization, this population may have a greater potential for vulnerability in relation to the fulfillment of their rights and exposure to abuse and violence, as it has been described and investigated in researches with gymnasts and on the culture of the gymnasiums of this modality. And in recently published reports, which reveal that the disrespect inside the gym is not current. Therefore, the present work aims to analyze the set of practices, conducts, and behaviors present in the training and sports-competitive training process that are part of the culture of Artistic Gymnastics training gyms, confronting them with the Statute of the Child and the Adolescent (Law No. 8069/90) and related legislation. As a method, a bibliographical and documentary research will be developed on contexts of sports training for gymnasts, which will later be organized through thematic analysis, based on the rights established in the Statute of Children and Adolescents, with the justification of promoting debates to rethink and transform the actions related to this field. Finally making them suitable for children rather than children suitable to the practices. (AU)
