Abstract

The famous Hieronymite monk Hernando de Talavera bequeathed an important collection of treatises on the experience of the Catholic faith at the end of the 15th century, with the opuscule Murmurar ou maldizer. Tratado mui proveitoso contra o comum e mui contínuo pecado que é detrair ou murmurar. Based on this document, this research will analyze the risks pointed out by the religious for the practice of the sins of the tongue, especially the one of murmuring. The objective will be to catalog not only the ways to commit these sins but the ways recommended by the Hieronymite to avoid them. (AU)
