Abstract

The current work presents a study of cogeneration in the tertiary sector with aspirated and turbocharged internal combustion engines. This is a process that allows, from a single fuel, the simultaneous production of heat and electrical energy. Thus, the activity of energy cogeneration contributes to energetic rationality, enabling better use and lower consumption of energy sources, when compared to the individual generation of heat and electricity. In that way, as happens in vehicles, the combustion engines eliminate a large amount of heat dissipated by the exhaust, as well as the portion related to the cooling water, making it possible to use a large part of this heat - from the engine-generators - in another thermal processes of a company. It is important to point out that fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas are finite sources of energy on the planet and the extraction and use cause negative impacts to nature, also harming thousands of people around the world, as they depend on the various onshore and offshore activities for their subsistence. The financial impact is noteworthy, since there is an expressive reduction in the financial costs of companies when they use cogeneration systems. From the economic point of view of a cogeneration project, the heat/electricity demand ratio is considered a factor of great contribution to its viability. This Academic Research propose to analyze the current state of knowledge regarding technologies for energy cogeneration with internal combustion engine, as well as to carry out simulations of such technology with different components (naturally aspirated and supercharged, with and without pre-admission cooling). The aim is also to verify the parameters of an engine and identify their influence on the efficiency of the system, adapting and analyzing them under different demands depending on the period of the day, with integral and differential analysis of the system. Furthermore, it seeks to identify the use of cogeneration in the tertiary sector based on environmental and economic indicators aiming at better efficiency of this process for the energy scenario.
