Effect of irrigation method, irrigating solution and irrigation time on simulated tissue dissolution in areas untouched by the instrument

Abstract

The biomechanical preparation of root canals is the step that seeks to clean and antisepsis the root canal system. In areas not touched by the instrument, irrigation through the method and the irrigator aims to clear complicated areas. The aim of the present study will be to compare the dissolution quality of simulated tissue as a function of irrigation method (Easy clean, Ultrasound and concevcional irrigation), irrigant (Chlorhexidine Solution or 2.5% Sodium Hypochlorite), and time of irrigation, 1 minute, 3 minutes, 6 minutes and 12 minutes). For this, 60 prototyped upper canines will be used. The teeth will be opened, instrumented until reciprocating instrument 50/.05, and subsequently, on the buccal side, two holes will be made, one in the apical third and another in the middle third where capillaries will fit with chrome Catgut wire. Before and after each analyzed period, the capillary will be weighed alone and with the wire inside. The experimental groups will be as follows: Group 1: Conventional irrigation with a lateral opening needle and 2.5% sodium hypochlorite for 1, 3, 6, and 12 minutes; Group 2: Conventional irrigation with a side opening needle and 2% Chlorhexidine solution for 1, 3, 6 and 12 minutes; Group 3: Agitated irrigation with Easy Clean continuously and 2.5% sodium hypochlorite for 1, 3, 6 and 12 minutes; Group 4: Agitated irrigation with Easy Clean continuously and 2% Chlorhexidine solution for 1, 3, 6 and 12 minutes; Group 5: Agitated irrigation with continuous ultrasonic tip and 2.5% sodium hypochlorite for 1, 3, 6 and 12 minutes; Group 6: Agitated irrigation with ultrasonic tip continuously and 2% Chlorhexidine solution for 1, 3, 6 and 12 minutes; After each irrigation process, the tube and tissue set will be weighed again. The initial weight will be subtracted from the final weight. The difference will be divided from the initial weight which will then be the solubilization percentage. The data of the weights before and after, as well as the solubilization percentage, will be submitted to normality tests by Shapiro-Wilkis. If the distribution is normal, the intragroup data will be compared by the T-test, if there is no normal distribution, the data will be compared by the Wilcoxon test. For comparison between groups, the Anova and Tukey test will be used if the distribution is normal and the Kruskal-Wallis test, if the data do not present a normal distribution. A significance level of 5% will be used. (AU)
