Abstract

Design of a drug carrier, based on liposomes with the presence of magnetic nanoparticles (NP). This unique combination was demonstrated to achieve drug targeting, with controlled drug release in specific tissues, under the application of an external magnetic field. The first part of the project is focused on the synthesis of the nanostructures itself. Being essential to determine the impact of different NP spatial distribution, in addition to the magnetic interactions present on the system formation. Imperative to perform structural, magnetic and colloidal characterization of the system.Magnetoliposomes shall be evaluated in-vitro with cells derived from human papillary carcinoma to establish their cytotoxicity limits. Drug encapsulation followed by magnetic hyperthermia treatment, by application of an alternating magnetic field to the system. A thorough study about the magnetoliposomes structure, morphology, stability, permeability, toxicity and biodistribution is necessary. This thorough study is the objective of this postdoc project.
