Abstract

This research project proposes an investigation on the dynamics of circular piezoelectric transducers working as actuators and sensors in SHM applications. The proposal comprises to investigate the interactions of longitudinal and flexural waves reflected and transmitted in plates with symmetrical damage using circular piezoelectric transducers as actuators and sensors. The state vector approach will be used to obtain the coefficients of transmitted and reflected waves due to incidence wave in the damage. The focus is to develop an approach to consider a range of angle in which longitudinal and flexural waves propagate due to the circular piezoelectric (PZT) actuator. The waves for a range of angle will interact with the damaged section to generate reflected and transmitted waves that will be captured by circular PZT sensors. Experimental tests have been previously carried out, and because of this theoretical and experimental findings will be compared during the research internship abroad. The results from this research can contribute for establishing a procedure for practical applications in SHM. (AU)
