Abstract

This research project aims to investigate the notion of "classes" and "class struggle" in the thought of Daniel Bensaïd (1946-2010), a prominent french Marxist intellectual. For this purpose, it is intended to promote an analysis of the development of his formulations on the subject between 1995 and 2009. In 1995, the author published two of his major works on Marx and Marxism, both dealing with the issue of classes and the class struggle: Marx, the untimely and The discordance of times: essays on the crisis, classes, and history. In 2007, he published In praise of profane politics, a book in which he seeks to intervene in a number of contemporary debates in social theory, with an entire chapter devoted to the question of classes. In 2009, he published Marx, instruction manual, which also has a chapter entirely devoted to this theme. During this period, he also produced other texts dealing with this issue. Thus, the main objective of the project is to apprehend the specific contribution that the author made to the debate about social classes and class struggle. This is, therefore, theoretical research that aims to contribute to the debate about social classes in their contemporary configuration.(AU)
