Abstract

The FAPESP Research Program on Biodiversity Characterization, Conservation, Restoration, and Sustainable Use (BIOTA-FAPESP) is one of the largest research programs related to biodiversity conservation in Brazil. Considering the extensive research and its wide database, the thematic project "BIOTA-FAPESP Program in basic education: possibilities for curricular integration (2018-2023)"proposes actions directed to the use and dissemination of data generated by this program. Therefore, researchers from the thematic project are designing teaching and learning materials that will be available on a freely accessible website to students and teachers from all over Brazil, allowing the interaction between them and the subjects addressed. These materials require supplements with research contexts about local biota, probably from the SINBIOTA database. Complementing the aims already achieved, questionnaires about knowledge and interests in biodiversity of students aged 14 to 16have been developed. These researches represent a baseline to guide the didactic potential of academic production under the BIOTA-FAPESP Program. The scientific initiation student will develop research on several fronts of the thematic project: a survey (quantitative and qualitative) about knowledge and interests in biodiversity of students aged 14 to 16; collaboration in the development of teaching and learning materials using the SINBIOTA database; and dissemination, application, and evaluation of the materials developed and available on the BIOTA-FAPESP Educação website in basic education schools in its geographic region.(AU)
