Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has devastated the world, and the design of potentialnanomedicines based on eco-friendly nanostructured materials as complementary solutions to the vaccine's development can provide satisfactory approaches. In this way, this project focuses on the spectroscopic study of hybrid CeO2@microcrystalline cellulose quantum dots to gain comprehension on the correlation of Ce(III)/Ce(IV) redox capacity, the scavenging of reactive oxygen species, and its biocidal property. The spectroscopic studies will be performed using the Positron Annihilation Lifetime and the Electron Paramagnetic Resonance techniques enabling the qualitative and quantitative characterization of the structural defects that are intrinsically correlated to its multi-functional capability. Besides, their CO2 gas sensing behavior will likewise be evaluated as a tool to prevent the SARS-CoV-2 airborne transmission. (AU)
