Abstract

The objective of this proposal of Research and Internship Abroad in the University of Barcelona (Spain), supervised by PD Dr. Juliane Müller, is to advance on the discussions of my doctoral thesis at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP, Brazil), that consists in an ethnography about the popular economy practices of caseras Aymaras from Villa Adela. The fieldwork, realized between November 2019 and December 2021, involved me in the relations of production, circulation and consumption of food products, especially through the churros economy of the Aymara family Chambi. Thenceforth, I was able to get to know and to experience different economic practices of the Aymara people, and to understand cultural elements of reciprocity and trust in the production of this grassroots economy, such as the yapa, the ayni, the iraqa and the cariño. Through the works of Nico Tassi (2013) and Juliane Müller (2015; 2018; 2020) about popular economies in La Paz, it was possible to access debates on popular economies in Latin America and about those once marginalized actors who achieved to stablish themselves as economic actors and formed economies in their own terms, breaking through the national boundaries. Likewise, some references on Andean studies (Albó, 1987; Arnold & Spedding, 2008; Barragán & Solíz, 2008) and kinship (Arnold [ed]. 2014; Carsten, 1995; 2004) throw light on the caseras' economies, considering that the production and circulation process occur between members of Andean Aymara families. Therefore, I propose a dialogue with PD Dr. Juliane Müller and with the Group Study of the Department of Social Anthropology of the University of Barcelona as a contribution to the present proposal of doctoral research.
