Abstract

To begin, Cicero was a Roman senator and orator. Nowadays, many of his artworks are accessible and, largely register the roman Republic events. Furthermore, Pompey, was a military leader who, as well as Cicero, was very well recognized and hás been a referent among his contemporaneous people. Cicero's banishment occurred on 58 BC, due to a set of political tensions and at a time of instability in his relationship with Pompey. Cicero's interpersonal relationships were indispensable for him to exercise the policy while he was banished, thus, he kept his sociability networks through letters, which had Atticus as a recurrent addressee, who was an influential equestrian. In this way, we comprehend that the relationship between Cicero and Pompey was a disturbed one and, when keeping our attention to these military's contradictories attitudes about Cicero's exile, we wonder how could be possible Pompey's captain, so, that he would support Cicero's return to Rome. Therefore, we aim to understand the role of amicitia in this triad, so that the arpinate could guarantee his return. According to the 396 epistles Cicero sent to Atticus, separated into 16 books, we have selected 22 letters written during the period of the exile, where we find comments to Atticus about Cicero's waiting in Pompey to intervene in his banishment.(AU)
