Abstract

Nowadays, the frenetic growth of e-commerce is a well-known fact, and consequently, many companies have been facing complex fulfillment challenges. In this context, mathematical optimization can be a powerful tool for supporting the decision-making process, as in warehousing and distribution of goods. This work intends to study a delivery planning problem of distribution centers based on an e-commerce company from Latin America. The main objective is to reduce transportation costs and delivery time, which positively impacts customer satisfaction. First, a mathematical model will be developed that is evaluated using commercial optimization solvers. Then, matheuristics and metaheuristics methods will be analyzed. Furthermore, machine-learning techniques will be explored for improving the strategies previously proposed. It is also worth pointing out that the combination of mathematical optimization with machine learning techniques has been used successfully in several optimization problems. Hence, it is expected to develop strategies for developing mathematical modeling and solving common fulfillment problems for e-commerce companies and therefore contribute to the literature.
