Phosphoethanolamine, scientific heteronomy and the interface between political, scientific and media fields: a quantitative sociological study

Abstract

Adopting the sociology of science from Pierre Bourdieu, this research proposal aims to construct the scientific field of research in Brazilian chemistry and the subfield raised around the case of the synthetic phosphoethanolamine, uncovering its interfaces with the political and mediatic fields. The field of chemistry will be structured by the distribution of various forms of capital, made available from the data on the Sucupira Platform of more than 13 thousand researchers from strictu sensu postgraduate programs, while the phosphoethanolamine's subfield will make use of supplementary data from the agents involved in the dispute from other platforms, such as the Lattes Curriculum, Google Scholar and Tweet analysis. Thus, the study will be based on geometric statistical analyzes that will support the construction, in a relational and multidimensional way, of the structural relations particular to each field or subfield explored. The visualization of these structures and the position occupied by the agents in the field, together with Bourdieu's interpretation of the relationship between science and society, can possibly reveal objective conditions that constrained such conflict, as well as subserve the interpretation of the interfaces between political, scientific and mediatic fields.(AU)
