Abstract

The present project deals with thermal characterization of the biomass from Dillenia indica, popularly known as maçã-de-elefante in Brazil. Initially, the residue will be submitted to micronization process, and later will be kiln dried. Then, the study of thermal properties will be carried out, such as: thermal degradation, determination of thermal capacity and calorific value, as well as determination of the components released at each stage of burning and degradation, according to the temperature which the material is subjected. Immediate analysis will be performed to determine the ash, fixed carbon content and volatile materials. It is expected that study will provide information and contribute to the cogeneration of thermal energy using this kind of biomass. (AU)
