Abstract

Parkinson's Disease (PD) is known as the second most common neurodegenerative disorder in the population, with most cases being idiopathic. Pathologically, this disease is related to the neuronal death of dopaminergic cells located in the substantia nigra of the central nervous system, consequently causing the depletion of neurotransmitters such as dopamine. This dysregulation generates several symptoms in the individual, such as resting tremors, loss of postural reflexes, and bradykinesia. For a better clinical evaluation, Parkinson's disease can be classified into different stages. The causes of PD are not yet specifically known, so much research has been devoted to the study of possible environmental causes. Based on this principle, this research proposes the study of a possible influence of the presence and concentration of metallic nanoparticles (NPs) as well as 8-hidroxiguanosine levels on the stages and evolution of patients with Parkinson's disease. It is expected that with the results of this research it will be possible to evaluate whether patients with Parkinson's have different contents of metallic NPs in their blood, as well as different levels of 8-hidroxiguanosine. Furthermore, by means of statistical analysis, it will be possible to evaluate whether 8-hidroxiguanosina levels and metal concentration at different stages of the disease make it possible to predict a possible influence on the progression of Parkinson's disease.
