Abstract

Objective: to analyze the laryngeal and supraglottic morphometry of children and adolescents from 6 to 13 years old, both genders, by means of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) structural, according to axial, sagittal, and coronal sections; and to compare the laryngeal morphometry between female and male genders. Methods: retrospective and cross-sectional study. Will be selected 60 structural magnetic resonance images of children and adolescents, from 6 to 13 years old, of both genders, from a database of images of patients with class III malocclusion or Angle subdivision. Seven morphological measurements of the larynx and supraglottic cavity will be performed in the axial section, with the sagittal and coronal sections as references for the localization of the structures of interest: 1. The angle between the vocal folds; 2. Left vocal fold length; 3. Right vocal fold length; 4. Distance between the vocal processes of the arytenoid cartilages; 5. Anteroposterior distance of the anterior commissure of the larynx to the posterior laryngeal wall, at the level of the vocal folds; 6. Anteroposterior distance of the trachea, 1cm below the vocal folds; and 7. Anteroposterior distance of the trachea, 2 cm below the vocal folds. Morphological measurements will be performed using Horos medical imaging software, version 3. Morphometry will be performed by a voice specialist with experience in making morphological measurements. The degree of reliability of the measurements will be verified by retesting 10% of the sample, randomly selected, by another researcher. Analysis: According to the laryngeal and supraglottic morphometry, the comparison of the seven morphological measurements will be performed between the female and male genders.(AU)
