Abstract

This research internship abroad, extension of our ongoing PhD research, aims to map the trajectories of Brazilian artists in Paris between 1904 and 1914, period when the painter Helios Seelinger (1878-1965), main object of our thesis, was living there. We intend to survey the art schools they attended, their atelier's addresses, the artworks produced and sold, the participation in exhibitions, the social networks they integrated and the debates they engaged in during their stay in Paris. From these data, we'll analyse their strategies and concerns in building their names and the consequences of all this in their stylistic repertoires. This research, guided by a transnational perspective in vogue both in Brazil and France, will allow us to position the group in the Brazilian and French art scene, refreshing the conceptions about modernity in the so-called periphery countries and contributing to the writing of a global narrative of modern art.
