Abstract

This research project aims to analyze the International Basic Economy Corporation (IBEC), a company created in the United States which has worked in development projects for several segments in Latin America, including the housing field, with a division called IBEC Housing. Through the proposals undertaken by IBEC for housing estates, we aim to understand the role of the institution in the relations established between the United States and part of the countries of Latin America, from the late 1940s until the middle 1980s, when the company was operating. The possibility of studying these housing actions can reveal several tensions, intense circulation of ideas about urban proposals, divergences, and political issues regarding the American presence in the promotion of housing, during the period marked by the Cold War.
