Abstract

Melanoma (MLA) is aggressive and potentially lethal skin cancer, mostly when diagnosed in advanced stages. The MLA treatment is performed mainly by cytotoxic drugs limited by their high systemic toxicity, acquired resistance by tumor cells, and immunosuppression. In the search to find out new molecules capable of presenting a better response rate and with fewer side effects, products of natural origin are emphasized. Therefore, polyisoprenylated benzophenone Gutiferone E (GE) is highlighted, as a component of the Brazilian red propolis extract, which has cytotoxic activity described in the literature. However, studies about antitumor activity in MLA are still absent. As a result, is realized a necessity for a study in order to obtain knowledge and the possibility of developing a new therapeutic approach through this molecule. In view of the above, the present study has the purpose of evaluating the antitumor activity of GE on MLA. According to this, the present inquiry will conduct tests in a syngeneic model of murine melanoma with the purpose of analyzing the antitumor potential (tumor tissue histology; volume, weight, and tumor control index) and systemic toxicity (body and tissue weight, biochemical dosages of nephrotoxicity and genotoxicity) of GE. This study aims to add knowledge to designate new therapeutic strategies in MLA treatment.(AU)
