Abstract

Nanostructures applied to dental implants have been suggested to contribute to a higher grade of osseointegration. A new method for the functionalization of implants with bioactive glass (BSF18) was developed to promote earlier osseointegration. The aim of this project will be to evaluate the nanomechanical properties of the bone surrounding the dental implants biofunctionalized by bioactive glass in areas of the maxillary sinuses previously grafted with a bioactive glass biomaterial associated with bone marrow stem cells or with a biomaterial derived by mixture of hydroxyapatite and beta-tricalcium phosphate. Dental implants with nano-hydroxiapatite surface (NANO-HA) and nano-hydroxiapatite biofuncionalized with bioactive glass (NANO-HA + BSF18) were inserted into maxillary sinus in rabbits. The nanomechanical bone parameters will be investigated for elastic modulus and hardness evaluation in response to a nanometric hydroxyapatite implant surface and bioactive glass coating. Thus, the surface properties will be analyzed through 3D non-contact profilometer to investigate Sa, Sq and Sdr surface roughness parameters on dental implants of this study. Nanoindentation and profilometer analysis are the proposed methodology to be performed at the Department of Molecular Pathobiology, Division of Biomaterials, New York University College of Dentistry. The BEPE grantee correlated with DR (2021/00632-3) and CEPID (2013/07793-6) would highly enrich the validate results for the application of bioactive glass for bone regeneration and coated on dental implants.
