Microtomographic analysis of peri-implant bone tissue in areas previously grafted with synthetic biomaterials: a preclinical study

The objective of this research will be to analyze the mineralized tissue around dental implants with different surfaces installed in the maxillary sinus area of rabbits. Initially, a new bioactive glass composition will be prepared for coating on the surface of dental implants (Nano-hydroxyapatite, UNITITE, SIN implants, São Paulo, Brazil). A total of 16 rabbits will undergo bilateral access to the maxillary sinus floor membrane to elevate it and insert bone grafts with the following groups and periods: Group 1: HA-²TCP with bone regeneration for 30 days, Group 2: HA-²TCP with bone regeneration of 60 days, Group 3: F18 with bone regeneration of 30 days, Group 4: F18 with bone regeneration of 60 days. After the periods, hydroxyapatite nonactivation surface implants (Nano-Ha) or biofunctionalized with F18 bioactive glass (BSF18) will be installed in the previously grafted areas. After 15 days of osseointegration, the pieces will be collected, fixed, and then subjected to microtomographic analysis to identify the percentage of bone volume (BV/TV), thickness, number, and separation of trabeculae (Tb.Th, Tb. N, Tb.Sp) and total porosity (PoTot). For statistical analysis, if the data generated is normal, the Anova parametric tests complemented by the Tukey test will be used for the inferential analysis of the data. All tests will be applied with a significance level of 5%.
