Abstract

Smoking is the main cause of illness and death worldwide, it is a serious public health problem and a habit that has consequences for the individual's life. Dental appointments are available opportunity to approach the smoker, motivate and refer to smoking treatment. The aim of the study is to describe changes in tobacco consumption in the period of social restriction resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic through the application and analysis of new questionnaires to smoking patients who underwent the smoking cessation program of the Group of Studies and Treatment for Smokers of the Institute of Science and Technology, São Jose dos Campos who have already answered the SF-36 and the Fantastic Lifestyle Questionnaires before the COVID-19 pandemic. Seventy-one patients from the Group of Studies and Treatment for Smokers of the Institute of Science and Technology, in São José dos Campos will respond to the Short-Form Survey (SF-36), one of the most used instruments to measure general health due to its good construction, consistency and reliability. It consists of a broad-spectrum profile measure that includes 36 items or 8 subscales of physical and mental health components. And the Fantastic Lifestyle Questionnaire, also a good instrument to measure general health due to its good construction, consistency and reliability will be responded as well. In addition, data such a sage at which they started smoking, years of use, number of cigarettes per day, motivation to quit, attempts to quit the habit, current age, gender and the patient's alcohol consumption habits will be obtained with the purpose of tracing the smoking profile of the individual and answering how the smoking habit was influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic. The expected result is that due to the deterioration in mental and physical health caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, tobacco use has increased. (AU)
