Abstract

A black lion tamarin group (BLT, Leontopithecus chrysopygus) has been discovered inCarlos Botelho State Park in 2013. Since then, except a monitoring of the group bythe Manaca Institute, no attempt has been conducted to understand the ecology of thespecies in this sub-montane forest, largely differing from the semi-deciduous habitatwhere it is usually found. In addition, in this area, the BLT co-occurs with three moreprimate species, the muriqui (Brachyteles arachnoides), the howler monkey (Alouattaguariba), and the capuchin monkey (Sapajus nigritus), giving the opportunity to studyinter-specific interactions and resource competition. Therefore, we request a Masterfellowship to study the BLT ecology and behavior in this sub-montane forest, focusing onits dietary habits, space use and inter-specific interactions. These data will enable tocomplement a large dataset on the resources used by the primates of the Carlos Botelhostate Park and estimate their dietary niches.
