Use of 360 video in teaching the clinical management of premature rupture of membranes

Abstract

The advance in new technologies has improved medical education providing the technical training of students in the digital environment, making their contact with patients safer. Particularly in Obstetrics, the use of virtual reality has proven to be an effective method of learning, as it combines the technological domain, well known by the "digital natives", with medical practice. Furthermore, in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, the use of immersion in a virtual environment is able to overcome the deficits caused by the reduction in direct contact with patients. Objectives: to develop a 360º video about assistance to premature rupture of membranes and analyze the impact on the learning of medical students. Methods: it is applied research that aims at the development of virtual teaching material on the premature rupture of membranes. In the video, high-fidelity simulators will be used to perform the obstetric physical examination, and actors to simulate the pregnant woman and the assistant physician. After watching the video, the 5th-grade medical students will be invited to answer a questionnaire, made on a five-point Likert scale, to assess the material produced. The last step of the research will be the statistical analysis of these responses, as well as their interpretation.(AU)
