Abstract

B or supernumerary chromosomes are characterized as extra chromosomes to the chromosomal pattern of a species, known as A chromosomes, and are found in great diversity, morphological and numerical, in neotropical fish. In the species Prochilodus lineatus, three distinct variants of this supernumerary chromosome are already known, which the studies of its repetitive content, aimed at satellite DNAs, show a great similarity between these three variants, raising a hypothesis of common origin between them. In P. lineatus, studies regarding its B chromosomes have been done for decades, but their genes or repetitive sequences are poorly studied. Therefore, the main objectives of this work are to create a chromosomal genome of the species Prochilodus lineatus of a individual containing the three Bs variants, for a further characterization of its genes and repetitive sequences in these chromosomes, in addition to a comparison of the Bs of Prochilodus lineatus in relation to Prochilodus costatus, Prochilodus argenteus and Prochilodus nigricans. The assembly of these B chromosomes will give knowledge of their evolution, content and origin in this species.
