Abstract

During the development of the master's research (FAPESP Process 2021/05752-7) we came across important theoretical and method issues for understanding the phenomenon we intend to analyze. In this sense, the present research project abroad has as main objectives: a) to allow a theoretical deepening in discussions involving the concepts of production and valorization of space, aiming to incorporate contributions from relevant researchers and research groups from the host institution to the framework of mobilized method, continuing the discussions made throughout the research so far; b) discuss how infrastructure-type geographic objects are configured as a particular kind of space valorization and about the particularities of this process in the current financialization framework; c) to verify characteristics of the participation of institutional investors in public infrastructure concession projects in the United States, allowing the evaluation, by contrast, of the specificities of the Brazilian case. To this end, bibliographic research will be carried out, participation in study groups, research seminars and follow-up of graduate courses at The Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY), in the second half of 2022. The institution is a reference in debates on the aforementioned topics and has great names in contemporary geography on its faculty, such as Cindi Katz (supervisor of the present project), David Harvey and Ruth Gilmore, among others.
