Abstract

The significant increase in automobiles in Brazilian cities caused an increase of traffic in urban centers. Along with the increase of vehicles in streets, comes the problem of lack of parking lots. Our intention with this project is to study the services of rotating parking meters in the municipalities of São Paulo State that are under the concession of the company Estapar, with the objective of understanding the problem from a geographical perspective and understand the conditions of use of the territory by the agents that aim to appropriate portions of urban space for this purpose. The concession processes for these rotating parking meters have attracted big companies, listed on stock markets, that are now among the main agents interested in these public spaces. In order to elucidate this type of action of financial capital on urban central spaces, the research will establish the forms of insertion of these companies in the rotating parking meter services, mainly through the investigation of the actions of the company Estapar, seeking to understand the participation of the new techniques that are being used in the management processes of these portions of the territory.
