Abstract

Ionic diodes have been studied in electrochemistry, as one of the solutions to produce potable water by desalination, energy production and recovery of neutral molecules. This last item is of great interest in drug transport, removing it from one compartment and accumulating it in another. However, the conditions for this process still need to be optimized. Experimental studies have been conducted in this direction, but this approach limits the number of conditions that can be investigated. Alternatively, computational methods can contribute to this regard, allowing the scanning of a wide variety of conditions. Of these methods, the finite element method stands out, which allows numerical solutions of differential equations in irregular geometries. Therefore, we propose to investigate by simulation the electroosmotic flow in electrochemical devices, constituted by the association of ionic diodes, in order to indicate conditions for their experimental construction and operation that may result in better performances. It is planned to select appropriate geometries to describe ionic diodes, carry out investigations of geometric variations and operational parameters by factorial designs in order to produce response surfaces that may serve as a guidance tool for the construction and operation of experimental devices.
