Abstract A placebo is an inert treatment with the potential to elicit positive effects in the body, influenced by factors such as conditioning and expectation. The placebo effect, in turn, is a positive response to an intervention that uses a treatment lacking an active ingredient, and this effect can stem from prior conditioning, the environment, or the expectation surrounding the intervention. This placebo effect can be experienced even when individuals are openly informed that they are receiving a placebo intervention. This study aims to investigate different forms of administration of placebo and open-label placebo on the performance, hypertrophy, and strength of cyclists and strength training practitioners. For Project A, 52 trained cyclists will be recruited for the open-label placebo intervention in capsules and performance in a 4km time trial. In Project B, the perceived injectable placebo as an anabolic steroid and open-label injectable placebo will be tested for strength and hypertrophy in 40 strength training practitioners, with this intervention lasting for 20 weeks.
