Abstract

The fellow will study in experimental hosts the interaction of animal and/or human pathogenic microorganisms that trigger brain pathologies. "Wild" microorganisms or microorganisms carrying genes for luminescence/fluorescence will be used for analysis of infectious processes through non-invasive real-time imaging. The fellow will participate in associated sub-projects that utilize ZIKV and SARS-Cov-2 viruses. The fellow will adapt cultures of the parasite Trypanosoma vivax (PLoS Negl Trop Dis. 2011 Dec;5(12):e1461) for further study of the in vivo (immuno)inflammatory process and its consequences in the impairment of the brain and blood-brain barriers, using immunology techniques and 2D- and 3D- imaging, under NB2 and NB3 confinement conditions.
