Abstract

The objective is to radiographically evaluate the effectiveness of interfragmentary compression in cats' tibiae (ex vivo) using a locked intramedullary nail associated with an interfragmentary compression device (patent BR 10 2018 016021 4) through minimally invasive osteosynthesis (MINO). For this, cadavers of adult cats (n=16) will be used, of which one specimen (n=1) will be directed to the "pilot" test, while the rest (n=15) will be directed to the definitive tests. All cadavers (right and left tibias) will be evaluated through radiographic images (M1 - moment 1), as a way to identify anatomical changes that can be excluded, planning and selection of dimensions of orthopedic implants and also to measure the tibial mechanical axis , of the proximal and distal angles in the sagittal and frontal planes, and of torsion, prior to the surgical procedure. The animals will be randomly selected into three groups, with 5 specimens each (10 tibias per group) and submitted to transverse osteotomies (access from the lateral side of the limb): G1-DP (osteotomy in the proximal diaphysis of both tibias); G2-DM (middle diaphyseal osteotomy) and G3-DD (distal diaphyseal osteotomy). Then, the 30 tibias will be radiographed again (M2 - moment 2). After previous surgical planning, the stable angle locked intramedullary nail (HIB-AE) associated with the interfragmentary compression device (BR 10 2018 016021 4) will be placed in the tibia using the MINO technique (minimally invasive nail osteosynthesis) and the interfragmentary compression will be performed, together with the rod locks. After implantation of the nails in all feline cadavers (n=30 tibias), new radiographs will be taken (M3 - time 3) to assess bone apposition, effectiveness of interfragmentary compression, alignment achieved, placement of implants placed and compare statistically, the final results of the mechanical axes and angles obtained, compared to radiographs (M1) prior to implantation of the nails.
