Abstract

This project presents an internship proposal for the PRISM Laboratory at Aix-Marseille Université, Marseille, France. The main goal of this project is to accomplish an important step of our research by implementing psychoacoustic descriptors to consolidate the analytical methodology to sound mass music we have developed in our doctoral study. We have already discussed our proposal with Prof. Dr. Sølvi Ystad, that will be the BEPE supervisor. She works within the perceptual engineering group of the PRISM laboratory and we have found mutual interests in the development of the research proposed here. In our project, we first present the main motivation for the international internship, by highlighting the research facilities the Prism Laboratory has to host our research proposal. Then, we present our main goal that is focused on the recent musicological perspective which has been developed concerning to the analysis of sound mass composition. It is centered on the idea of sound complexity, perceptual patterns, and invariant sound structures. Next, we discuss the contribution of this BEPE proposal that is the use of computational tools to analyze Ligeti's works with psychoacoustic descriptors. Then, we are presenting the objectives and methodology to be applied during the BEPE, focusing on the implementation of psychoacoustic descriptors aiming to represent frequency and temporal features of the sound mass texture. Finally, we display the schedule of the 12-month BEPE, as well as the evaluation criteria of the results obtained in the period. (AU)
