Abstract

What is intended here is to widen the knowledge of the significations and values associated with preserved nature and its consequences for landscapes and territories of cities. In the case study in Brazil - Serra da Cantareira -, it is possible to verify that the new significations associated with nature have aggregated value to the urban soil, even in areas once extremely devalued and segregated, and have as a reflex the intensification of sociospatial contradictions and the creation of new rationalities in the territory. Nature values and its spatial consequences have been verified in distinct realities and theoretical propositions, such as green gentrification and naturbanization, which demonstrate themselves particularly important for the investigation proposed here. Naturbanization is a conceptual and methodological basis which has evaluated the displacement of populations to areas under the influence of natural parks, the motivations, and the territorial and environmental impacts of this "return to nature" movement. This process is verified in Spain in the Sierra Nevada and Doñana parks, in researches developed by Prof. María-José Prados Velasco (who has proposed the term), and the possibility of establishing parallels to, differentiations from and more general reflections about the similar movement also verified in the case study within Brazil seems clear.
