Abstract

The photobiomodulation has shown positive outcomes in relation to muscle performance, fatigue, and modulation of the increment of blood lactate. Moreover, this occurs because photobiomodulation promotes physiological changes, mainly a greater production of cellular energy. In addition, the literature shows that treadmill runners submitted to photobiomodulation therapy showed improvements in the indices of perceived exertion, time to exhaustion, and distance run. Other studies also state that photobiomodulation is able to increase mitochondrial respiration under hypoxic conditions. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the influence of photobiomodulation therapy and normobaric hypoxia on aerobic capacity and power in treadmill running. Seventeen participants will be recruited, males aged 18-29 years, without musculoskeletal injury in the last three months or cardiorespiratory problems. In addition, the volunteers should be able to perform the VO2 maximal test and present physical fitness according to the PAR-Q questionnaire. The participants will participate in 7 treadmill test sessions, the first day for anamnesis and the first three days for equipment familiarization. Subsequently, the four days will be for the treadmill tests, being randomized two days for tests in normoxia condition with and without the application of photobiomodulation, and two days in hypoxia condition with and without the application of photobiomodulation. For statistical analysis, the Shapiro-Wilk test and a 5% significance level will be used.Keywords: Physiotherapy; Photobiomodulation; Physical exercise; Aerobic training; Athletic Performance.
