Abstract

In vitro production of bovine embryos (IVP) is a growing biotechnology, which comprises oocyte maturation, fertilization and embryonic culture. Such steps are carried out in two-dimensional (2D) culture systems, where part of the cultured structures are in direct contact with the plate surface. To circumvent the limitations present in the 2D system (oxidative stress and apoptotic mechanisms), a 3D system for cultivation was developed, whose matrices are biomaterials in the form of a hydrogel, allowing the introduction of molecules of interest to favor the cultivated structures. Thus, melatonin is an excellent option for aggregating the membrane, since it acts as an antioxidant and has an anti-apoptotic action in the development of oocytes. In this context, the objective is to observe the impact of in vitro maturation of COCs in four groups (control, maturation, culture and maturation-culture), increasing the number and quality of embryos produced by IVP in the 3D system with the CellFate membrane, added or not with melatonin, on embryo production.
