Abstract

The rotational dynamics of a close-in body is highly affected by the dissipative torque caused by tidal forces, which is a consequence from the gradient formed by a gravitational field exerted on said body. Here, we consider the three-dimensional problem of an extended body under the gravitational potential of one and two point mass primaries, where the gravitating body is assumed to have a generalized Maxwell rheology and permanent deformation. By numerically integrating the full equations of motion, we intend to investigate the permanent and temporary capture into spin-orbit resonances, as well as the dynamics of the gravitating body's spin axis.
