Abstract

This research proposes to analyze the construction of the history ofbrazilian literature by Isaac Goldberg in Brazilian literature (1922), look for thearticulation of studies by Brazilian reviewers José Veríssimo, Sílvio Rome ro and Ronaldde Carvalho. The methodology adopted by the american reviewer to oppose the theoriesand classifications created by the three brazilian critics looking for to balance thecontroversies and divergent opinions that arise from reading the works presented asreference. To identify the critical method in the book of Goldberg in the readings ofÁlvaro Lins and João Alexandre Barbosa, verifying throughout its text in which contextthe brazilian critics are cited and how the divergences between them are explained. It isalso proposed to investigate what influences may have been exerted in Goldberg to adoptthe opinions of Veríssimo, Romero and Ronald de Carvalho.
