Abstract

The aim of the study is to evaluate the influence of the association of the antibacterial monomer dimethylaminohexadecyl methacrylate (DMAHDM; 10% and 15%) and the bioactive particle nanohydroxyapatite (5%) on the antibacterial and remineralizing potentials and physical-mechanical properties of experimental resin infiltrants. The groups will be formed by the infiltrants: Experimental Pure (EP) [75% TEGDMA, 25% BisEMA, 0.5% camphorquinone (CQ) and 1% ethyl 4-dimethylaminobenzoate (EDAB)], EP + 10% DMAHDM, EP + 15% DMAHDM, EP + 5% nanohydroxyapatite, EP + 10% DMAHDM + 5% nanohydroxyapatite, EP + 15% DMAHDM + 5% nanohydroxyapatite and commercial control Icon® (DMG, Germany). From samples of each group, the antibacterial potential properties will be evaluated through bacterial viability assay in Laser Scanning Confocal Microscope (n=6) and morphological characterization in Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). To analyze the remineralizing potential, white spot lesions induced on human dental enamel samples will be treated with the infiltrants and analyzed using Knoop microhardness, SEM and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy before and after simulated cariogenic challenge (n=12). Degree of conversion (n=12), Sorption and Solubility (n=12) and Contact angle (n=12) will be evaluated from samples from each group. Data will be analyzed for normality and homoscedasticity, and statistical analysis will be performed with appropriate tests at 5% significance level.
