Abstract

A resinous agent for the treatment of carious white spot lesions has been used with the potential to infiltrate tooth tissue, filling the pores of enamel affected by the lesion and preventing its progression. Currently, this resin infiltrant is commercially available by just one product: Icon®. This project aims to compare the permeability of Icon® and experimental infiltrants on artificial caries lesions by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) and measurement of its depth permeability. Artificial caries lesions will be produced in 120 specimens of bovine flat enamel by pH cycling. Specimens will be treated with either the Icon® infiltrant or experimental products (n= 10). After treatment, specimens shall be prepared for evaluation of the permeability through CLSM. The penetration of infiltrants will be defined by the distance from the surface to the deepest point labeled with the fluorescent dye Rhodamine B, which will be incorporated prior to the infiltrants. Data will be collected and statistically analyzed according to the distribution to be verified. (AU)
